Euthanasia talk by Margaret Sommerville — 3 Comments

  1. I wish to know by what right anyone has to disallow me to practice voluntary euthanasia should I so wish?

  2. Not once, during this whole debate, did Miss Sommerville mention the millions of old people kept alive in nursing homes, many of whom are given unneccessary medication to keep them alive. She should get off her soapbox and make a point of visiting nursing homes on a regular basis. These tragic people are simply there to die – often in the most undignified of ways, because their families are unable or don’t want to look after them, and because businesses are making a fortune from keeping them alive!

  3. Hi Pamela,
Your comment opens up an interesting question:

I want to know what right any government has to determine that a person is “killable” or “not killable”.

    Hi Josephine,

The right to refuse futile or burdensome treatment is NOT euthanasia, is CURRENTLY allowed, and has my full support.

Euthanasia is not about “not allowing to die” or “keeping alive unnecesarily” but making a determination that someone can (and should) be killed by someone else.

Even if exploitation does exist, I would rather have exploitation from continuing life, than exploitation from ending it.
