Synod Motions & MP’s Replies

The annual meeting of the Synod of the Anglican Church of Tasmania met in Launceston in June 2011 and concerns were expressed about ethical issues in Australian and international life.

As a result both at Synod or on behalf of Synod, the following decisions were made and the Bishop was requested to inform the appropriate Federal and/or State politicians.

The Bishop’s letter plus the politician’s, MP’s, replies are set out in the following social issues:

Euthanasia

Gambling

Definition of Marriage

Piracy

School Chaplaincy

Treatment of Refugees

  1. Bishop John,

Without wishing to add to the adminstrative load of your blog…

is it possible to get the full letters in reply from our political representatives up on the blog?

We rarely hear them without someone editing them so it would be nice to get a greater appreciation of their views, and perhaps a little more of who they are.

    With thanks, and blessings

    David Owens

  2. Thanks, David.

Typing all the letters into the blog will take quite a lot of typing to get them up. I’ll need to check if we have the capacity at the office.

Please email me at the office and I’ll check when I am back there end of next week.

  3. Hi David,

The full letters have now been scanned and are available under the subject headings in this blog article.

Thank you for encouraging us to make the politicians’ full letters available.

    Shalom
    John

  4. Thank you John! Interesting to see the range of styles and also some of the detail.

    Blessings,

    David
