Urging the (political)\u00a0parties to develop a joint approach, so humans do not become\u00a0 political pawns, the bishops said:<\/p>\n
“To honour the Australian sense of justice\u00a0 and compassion, there must be a defined limit to incarceration in detention\u00a0 centres for people who are not criminals.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We should be particularly proud of\u00a0 Australia’s generosity over the years in providing refuge to vulnerable people\u00a0 fleeing their homelands. It’s important that we also remember the men, woman and\u00a0 children being held in detention centres.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
