{"id":858,"date":"2009-09-07T00:16:50","date_gmt":"2009-09-06T13:16:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?p=858"},"modified":"2009-09-07T00:16:50","modified_gmt":"2009-09-06T13:16:50","slug":"tim-hawkins-on-youth-ministry-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2009\/09\/07\/tim-hawkins-on-youth-ministry-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Tim Hawkins on youth ministry strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some notes from a stimulating conversation at Smithton re youth ministry with Tim Hawkins and ministry leaders: Jenny, Jonathan, Karen and Kate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aim of youth ministry is to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Disciple people,<\/li>\n<li>Build up people in Christ to go out to build up other people in Christ.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to work out where people are at in their ministry?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Keen Christians wanting to be involved in ministry<\/li>\n<li>Wanting to grow as a Christian (or simply happy to attend?)<\/li>\n<li>Are the Christians in the congregation intentionally befriending young people?\n<ul>\n<li>to bring friends and family to Christ?<\/li>\n<li>to build people in Christ?<\/li>\n<li>to send out people to bring and build people in Christ?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>To make disciples who will make disciples\n<ul>\n<li>disciple making ministry and always in the context of relationships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s people around me who will help me to take the steps to grow in Christ<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Structure outlasts the relationships<\/strong> (Problem of the Church)<\/p>\n<p><strong> The ministry program is<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> to help people to get to know each other<\/li>\n<li>to enable relationships and<\/li>\n<li>to enable intentional relationships<\/li>\n<li>to build disciples<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> The ministry of Christ\u2019s disciples is to build disciples!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Children leaving home and their church, ages 16-18,<\/strong> need to have sufficiently valued relationships in one church that they can be encouraged to go to a church in their new setting.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore what ministry will connect with them after they leave?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> We must contact people in their new setting who will contact them<\/li>\n<li>We must phone them ourselves \u2013 do not forget them!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Need to recruit in new young adults who have\/will have young children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our pastoral concern for leadership:<\/strong><strong> that they do not keep on extending themselves.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PS  My note taking on serviettes, etc, has been commented upon by some people \ud83d\ude42   Here are the serviette \u2018origins\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2009\/09\/s1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-859\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2009\/09\/s1-483x645.jpg\" alt=\"s1\" width=\"483\" height=\"645\" srcset=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2009\/09\/s1-483x645.jpg 483w, http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2009\/09\/s1-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2009\/09\/s1.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some notes from a stimulating conversation at Smithton re youth ministry with Tim Hawkins and ministry leaders: Jenny, Jonathan, Karen and Kate.
