{"id":8061,"date":"2011-07-18T00:23:33","date_gmt":"2011-07-17T13:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?p=8061"},"modified":"2011-07-18T00:23:33","modified_gmt":"2011-07-17T13:23:33","slug":"10-tests-for-mission-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2011\/07\/18\/10-tests-for-mission-initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Tests for mission initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the Anglican Communion News Service<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The English Diocese of Liverpool has set ten &#8216;tests&#8217; for any proposed initiatives to help churches avoid doing anything that might hinder the work of God&#8217;s mission.<\/p>\n<p>The diocese, which has 250 churches in both rural and urban settings in the north of the country, is said to be working towards &#8220;a sustainable, led and transforming Christian presence in every community in the diocese to enable all to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Does each area of work or initiative:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Encourage growth numerically or in spirituality?<\/li>\n<li>Support and reflect the church that we wish to become?<\/li>\n<li>Affirm mutual support and collaboration within the diocese?<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen relationships between parishes?<\/li>\n<li>Recognise the ethos and the characteristics of the diocese particularly highlighting issues peculiar to the diocese.<\/li>\n<li>Take appropriate account of the sustainability and viability issues of church buildings and congregations ?<\/li>\n<li>Provide for accountability throughout every step of the initiative within the diocese and beyond?<\/li>\n<li>Present an appropriate stewardship challenge?<\/li>\n<li>Provide appropriate support for local decision-making?<\/li>\n<li>Is the proposed system or process transparent and easily understood?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Are your mission\u00a0initiatives assisted by considering these criteria?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Anglican Communion News Service The English Diocese of Liverpool has set ten &#8216;tests&#8217; for any proposed initiatives to help churches avoid doing anything that might hinder the work of God&#8217;s mission.
