{"id":7553,"date":"2011-04-23T07:14:36","date_gmt":"2011-04-22T20:14:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?p=7553"},"modified":"2011-04-23T07:14:36","modified_gmt":"2011-04-22T20:14:36","slug":"liturgy-of-reconciliation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2011\/04\/23\/liturgy-of-reconciliation\/","title":{"rendered":"Liturgy of Reconciliation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The value of having the worship service in a booklet that I can take home and ponder has been affirmed once again.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Good Friday Service of Meditations at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stdavidscathedralhobart.org\/\">the Cathedral<\/a>, the service booklet including the prayers for reconciliation has been sitting on the dining room table.\u00a0 They were there to discuss at lunch, then\u00a0over a cuppa and hot cross bun as we headed for the 6pm prayer meeting and visiting the <a href=\"http:\/\/theimagineproject.com.au\/category\/heartz\/\"><em>Heartz Ministry<\/em> <\/a>Easter art display at the Longley International\u00a0Hotel and at home this morning over mate&#8217;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liturgy of Reconciliation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>After a time of silence the minister leads the Congregation in the litany.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. <em>(From the Apostle Paul&#8217;s letter to Rome, 3:23)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The hatred which divides nation from nation, race from race, class from class,<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Father forgive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The covetous desires of people and nations to possess what is not their own,<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Father forgive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The greed which exploits the work of human hands and lays waste the earth,<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Father forgive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Our envy of the welfare and happiness of others,<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Father forgive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Our indifference to the plight of the imprisoned, the homeless, the refugee,<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Father forgive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The lust which dishonours the bodies of men, women and children,<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Father forgive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The pride\u00a0that leads that leads us to trust in ourselves and not in God,<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Father forgive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.<\/p>\n<p><em>(From the Apostle Paul&#8217;s letter to the Ephesians, 4:32)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The prayer has too many connections to both my personal life and the life of the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>My prayer:<\/p>\n<p>May the Holy Spirit\u00a0nurture my life through participation in and reflection upon the prayer life of the people of God and in particular\u00a0today, upon\u00a0this Good Friday litany. In Christ&#8217;s name.
