The <em>Sharia4Australia<\/em>\u00a0Muslim&#8217;s response:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;If it causes a backlash against the Muslims, I can&#8217;t help that. This is a necessary debate.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In my view the danger is not just that this will stir non-Muslim antipathy towards the moderate Muslims but that it will encourage moderate Muslims to consider their own radicalisation. See the comment and\u00a0following conclusion\u00a0in, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/news\/world\/faith-baiting-only-breeds-radicalism\/story-e6frg6so-1225957936966\">Faith baiting only breeds radicalism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The accusation of the anti-sharia activists and the fondest hope of Osama bin Laden are identical: that every serious Muslim is a recruit for sedition.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Where is there hope?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So is sharia law compatible with democracy? In the totalitarian version of the Taliban, it cannot be reconciled with pluralism. But if sharia is interpreted as a set of transcendent principles of fairness and justice, applied in a variety of times, places and governmental systems, it more closely resembles the Christian and Jewish idea of social justice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There is a battle raging for the soul of Islam in non-Islamic nations including Australia\u00a0and we must be prayerfully and practically supportive of moderate Muslims. Also, <a href=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2010\/10\/11\/nazir-ali-islam-and-immigration\/\">Nazir-Ali: Islam and immigration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In many Islamic nations and Muslim majority countries (like Egypt) the suffering of non-Muslim people\u00a0questions any notion of Sharia being &#8220;interpreted as a set of transcendent principles of fairness and justice&#8221; &#8230;\u00a0resembling Christian and Jewish ideas of social justice.\u00a0\u00a0See, <a href=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2010\/11\/07\/iraq-iran-cns-driven-out\/\">Iraq and Iran: Cns driven out<\/a>\u00a0and the plight of Muslim moderates in these lands, <a href=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2011\/01\/06\/peace-making-shot-down\/\">Peace making shot down<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Inflammatory language does just what it says: inflames\/ grows\/ foments\/ increases confrontation and aggression.
