{"id":5257,"date":"2010-09-03T17:01:15","date_gmt":"2010-09-03T06:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?p=5257"},"modified":"2010-09-03T17:01:15","modified_gmt":"2010-09-03T06:01:15","slug":"bishop-teaches-islam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2010\/09\/03\/bishop-teaches-islam\/","title":{"rendered":"Bishop Teaches Islam?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following my day visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegiate.tas.edu.au\/\">St Michael\u2019s Collegiate School<\/a>, the Chaplain wrote some reflections in the School Magazine,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0The Students\u2019 questions ranged from, <em>How old are you<\/em>? and <em>Do you like chocolate more than ice-cream or ice-cream more than chocolate<\/em>? to <em>How do you become a Bishop?<\/em> and <em>Who made God? <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>The Bishop explained to both a year 6 and year 9 class (both of whom are currently studying world religions) three reasons why he regularly travels Tasmanian teaching people about Islam in sessions entitled <em>Understanding Your Muslim Neighbour. <\/em>Firstly, Bishop John argues, it is impossible to fully love your neighbour (as Jesus demands we do) if you do not understand their core beliefs and customs. Secondly, John sees benefits in Christians understanding where Christianity is similar to Islam and where it is different \u2013 thus providing points of connection to encourage and promote respectful dialogue across these two faiths.
