At the conclusion my Ordination Service\u00a0as Bishop of Tasmania on 25 July 2000, I prayed the following blessing at the Cathedral’s entrance. The congregation at today’s\u00a0Cathedral thanksgiving celebration<\/a> joined with me in praying it.<\/p>\n

The blessing grew\u00a0from my\u00a0prayer for\u00a0God’s work in Tasmania in the months prior to my ordination. I chose three aspects of God’s person on which to base the blessing: God is life, light,\u00a0and love. I then wrote a stanza of the blessing around each of these aspects of God’s person.<\/p>\n

A Blessing for Tasmania<\/h3>\n
<\/strong><\/address>\n
<\/strong><\/address>\n
God of all Life,<\/strong><\/address>\n
Bless in abundance the lives of the people of Tasmania.<\/address>\n
Enrich our society with relationships that deepen our common life.<\/address>\n
Grant seasonal weather to our State,<\/address>\n
And enable us, by your grace, to create life-enriching work for our unemployed.<\/address>\n
God of all Life, bless Tasmania.<\/address>\n
\u00a0<\/address>\n
God of all Light,<\/strong><\/address>\n
Bless this State with leadership that is honest and caring.<\/address>\n
Send the light of your wisdom on our work and our play.<\/address>\n
Shine the light of your justice on all our dealings,<\/address>\n
So that these islands may reflect your light in all the world.\u00a0<\/address>\n
God of all Light, bless Tasmania.<\/address>\n
\u00a0<\/address>\n
God of all Love,<\/strong><\/address>\n
Bless Tasmania with your love, in all we say and do.<\/address>\n
Help us to love one another, as neighbours and friends.<\/address>\n
Care for families whose young have left these shores.<\/address>\n
And by your good Spirit, ignite our love for Christ.<\/address>\n
God of all Love, bless Tasmania<\/address>\n
