A Litany for use during an election campaign<\/h3>\n

Lord of every time and place, God of integrity and truth,
\nwe pray for wisdom as we prepare to vote in the Federal election.<\/em><\/p>\n

Let us give thanks to God, saying, \u2018we thank you, Lord\u2019.<\/p>\n

For this land and the diversity of its peoples,<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 we thank you, Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n
For all who work for peace and justice in this land,<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 we thank you, Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n
For leaders who serve the common good,<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 we thank you, Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n
For robust democracy and freedom to participate in public life,<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 we thank you, Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n
For media scrutiny and open debate,<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 we thank you, Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n

Let us pray to the Lord, saying, \u2018Hear us, good Lord\u2019.<\/p>\n

Bless those who administer the electoral process,<\/address>\n
that they may uphold fairness, honesty and truth.<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hear us, good Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n
Impart your wisdom to all who propose policy,<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 that their promises may serve those in greatest need.<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hear us, good Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n
Give integrity to party leaders, candidates and campaign workers,<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and keep them from deceit and corruption.\u00a0<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hear us, good Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n
Protect all engaged in public life, with their families, friends and colleagues,<\/address>\n
that nothing may demean or do them harm.<\/address>\n
Hear us, good Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n
Direct those who influence opinion through the media,<\/address>\n
that we may listen, speak and vote with sound minds.<\/address>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hear us, good Lord.<\/strong><\/address>\n

The Litany concludes with one or both of these prayers:<\/p>\n

Lord of every time and place, God beyond our dreaming,<\/address>\n
we pray for wisdom as we prepare to vote in the Federal election.<\/address>\n
Give us a Parliament committed to the priorities of your kingdom,<\/address>\n
so that peace, compassion, truth and justice may prevail among us,<\/address>\n
and make us a blessing to all peoples, through Jesus Christ our Lord.\u00a0 Amen.<\/strong><\/address>\n
<\/strong>\u00a0<\/address>\n
God, bless Australia,<\/address>\n
guard our people<\/address>\n
guide our leaders<\/address>\n
and give us peace;<\/address>\n
for Jesus Christ\u2019s sake.\u00a0 Amen.<\/strong><\/address>\n
