Following is the outline of my notes,<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3450\" title=\"thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2010\/04\/thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"174\" height=\"152\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a01. <span style=\"color: #ff9900\">ATONEMENT <\/span>\u2013 WHY WE NEED IT <\/strong>(Romans 1:16-32)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Consider God. God is good.<\/li>\n<li>Consider evil. Evil is more complex than \u201cthe goodies versus the baddies\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Consider us. Evil finds an echo in the heart of every person.<\/li>\n<li>Consider Frodo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. <span style=\"color: #3366ff\">REDEMPTION<\/span> \u2013 WHY DID GOD BECOME HUMAN? <\/strong>(Isaiah 43:1-4, Romans 5:1, 6-8, Genesis 22:13, 14)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The cross in Islam and Christianity<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCity of Wrong: A Friday in Jerusalem\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Who is God?<\/li>\n<li>What is God like?<\/li>\n<li>How does God act?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. <span style=\"color: #cc99ff\">ABSOLUTION <\/span>&#8211; WHO WOULD BOTHER? <\/strong>(Luke 15:11-32, 1 John 4:10)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s in the prayer Book!<\/li>\n<li>The hardest words in the world<\/li>\n<li>The hardest act in the world<\/li>\n<li>The hardest act to follow<\/li>\n<li>Who will follow?<\/li>\n<li>Absolution without penance is . . . ?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RECONCILIATION <\/span>\u2013 THE JOY OF \u2018ABBA\u2019 Father <\/strong>(Colossians 1:13-22, 2 Corinthians 5:17-19, Luke 24:30, 31)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relationship \u2013 separated and restored<\/li>\n<li>Making peace through his blood, shed on the cross<\/li>\n<li>The person we were meant to be! \u2013 The joy of reconciliation<\/li>\n<li>The place we were meant to be &#8211; The joy of being in God\u2019s family<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. <span style=\"color: #808000\">RESCUE <\/span>\u2013 GOD ACTS TO SET US FREE <\/strong>(Matthew 20:1-15, John 8:3-11, Galatians 5:22-26)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rescue is grace<\/li>\n<li>Rescue is a Rescuer<\/li>\n<li>Rescue is life in the Spirit<\/li>\n<li>Rescue from and rescued for &#8211;\n<ul>\n<li>From Futility for purpose<\/li>\n<li>Form Ignorance for truth<\/li>\n<li>From Loneliness for community<\/li>\n<li>From Selfishness for servanthood<\/li>\n<li>From Death for life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[The actual reflections can be heard at St John&#8217;s Launceston &#8216;Download Sermons&#8217;, 2 April, available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stjohns.net.au\/?q=sermons\">here<\/a>.\u00a0] &#8211; later edit<\/p>\n<p>I would like to thank Revd Roger Hesketh and his team at St John\u2019s who have organised a special (three hour) reflection service centered on, <em>The Weekend that Changed the World.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The service which will capture the themes, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900\">Atonement<\/span>,<\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff\">Redemption<\/span><\/strong>, <strong><span style=\"color: #cc99ff\">Absolution<\/span><\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Reconciliation<\/strong> <\/span>and <span style=\"color: #808000\"><strong>Rescue<\/strong> <\/span>will include; hymns, times of reflection, prayerful reflection, Bible readings, media clips, music, renewal of Baptism vows, my talks on the 5 themes, an invitation to lay a nail at the foot of the cross, and an invitation to light a candle to symbolise the breaking of the power of darkness that Jesus&#8217; sacrifice achieved.<\/p>\n<p>I am sure if you would be interested in conducting a reflection service next Good Friday, Roger would be more than willing to share his ideas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This Good Friday I will be taking a service of reflection at St John\u2019s Launceston, entitled, The Weekend that Changed the World.
