The question being asked: Is the Prime Minister&#8217;s apology sincere or calculated political &#8216;spin&#8217;?<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, &#8216;spin&#8217; seems to be the\u00a0conclusion\u00a0from the media articles that I have read. See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/opinion\/editorials\/culpa-wont-cut-it\/story-e6frfhqo-1225835808760\">Culpa won&#8217;t cut\u00a0it<\/a>,\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/national\/does-mea-culpa-cover-it-20100226-p97d.html\">Does mea culpa cover it?<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/stories\/2010\/03\/01\/2833603.htm\">Labor figures perplexed by Rudd&#8217;s mea culpa<\/a> which concludes,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Whatever the rights or wrongs of Mr Rudd&#8217;s public sackcloth and ashes tour, some commentators have started talking about what the Government has done, rather than what is left undone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>How hard it is to separate sincerity from spin in public life.\u00a0Neither is it easy in\u00a0the relationships in our private life. The diversity of reactions to the Prime Minister&#8217;s apology\u00a0is not dissimilar to the\u00a0reactions to Tiger Woods&#8217; apology, see <a href=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2010\/02\/22\/lent-tiger-woods-and-mary-mackillop\/\">Lent: Tiger Woods and Mary MacKillop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge in restoring a relationship is\u00a0to be truly sorry\/remorseful, to restore that which is possible\u00a0and to change the unacceptable behaviour.
