‘The Light has Come’, an exposition of the Gospel According to John by Lesslie Newbigin,\u00a0is one of my favourite books.\u00a0I dip into this treasure trove\u00a0frequently. ‘The Light that has come’ is Jesus Christ. Jesus\u00a0is truly the ‘life that is the light of all people’ (see quote below and verse 4).\u00a0As I ponder the new year, the quote from Marie Louise Haskins’ poem, ‘God Knows’ <\/a>(popular title, ‘The\u00a0Gate of the Year’) from her\u00a0collection\u00a0‘The Desert’ 1908 used by King George VI\u00a0in 1939, comes to mind,<\/p>\n

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:<\/em><\/address>\n
“Give me a light, that I may tread safely into the unknown!”<\/em><\/address>\n
And he replied:<\/em><\/address>\n
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.<\/em><\/address>\n
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”<\/em><\/address>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The Light of the World, The Word Became Flesh\u00a0 – The Prologue of the Gospel\/Good News\u00a0of Jesus Christ according to John<\/strong><\/p>\n

1<\/sup>In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2<\/sup>He was in the beginning with God. 3<\/sup>All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4<\/sup>in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. 5<\/sup>The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. 6 <\/sup>There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7<\/sup>He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8<\/sup>He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. 9<\/sup>The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.\u00a0 (John 1:1-9)<\/p>\n

\u00a0Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.”<\/strong>\u00a0 (John 8:12)<\/em><\/p>\n
