Jesus\u00a0is truly the &#8216;life that is the light of all people&#8217; (see quote below and verse 4).\u00a0As I ponder the new year, the quote from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Gate_of_the_Year\">Marie Louise Haskins&#8217; poem, &#8216;God Knows&#8217; <\/a>(popular title, &#8216;The\u00a0Gate of the Year&#8217;) from her\u00a0collection\u00a0&#8216;The Desert&#8217; 1908 used by King George VI\u00a0in 1939, comes to mind,<\/p>\n<address><em>And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:<\/em><\/address>\n<address><em>&#8220;Give me a light, that I may tread safely into the unknown!&#8221;<\/em><\/address>\n<address><em>And he replied:<\/em><\/address>\n<address><em>&#8220;Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.<\/em><\/address>\n<address><em>That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.&#8221;<\/em><\/address>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span>The Light of the World, The Word Became Flesh\u00a0 &#8211; The Prologue of the Gospel\/Good News\u00a0of Jesus Christ according to John<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><sup>1<\/sup>In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. <sup>2<\/sup>He was in the beginning with God. <sup>3<\/sup>All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being <sup>4<\/sup>in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. <sup>5<\/sup>The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. <sup>6 <\/sup>There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. <sup>7<\/sup>He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. <sup>8<\/sup>He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. <sup>9<\/sup>The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.\u00a0 (John 1:1-9)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u00a0Jesus said, &#8220;I am the light of the world.&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0 (John 8:12)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0May the light of Christ, the One who is The Light in His person and also the light\u00a0of all people,\u00a0guide, guard and bless you through 2010.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;The Light has Come&#8217;, an exposition of the Gospel According to John by Lesslie Newbigin,\u00a0is one of my favourite books.\u00a0I dip into this treasure trove\u00a0frequently. &#8216;The Light that has come&#8217; is Jesus Christ.
