{"id":14998,"date":"2014-06-07T20:17:06","date_gmt":"2014-06-07T09:17:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?p=14998"},"modified":"2014-06-07T20:23:07","modified_gmt":"2014-06-07T09:23:07","slug":"pentecost-prayer-may-the-fire-of-the-spirit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2014\/06\/07\/pentecost-prayer-may-the-fire-of-the-spirit\/","title":{"rendered":"Pentecost prayer: May the fire of the Spirit &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PENTECOST PRAYER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>God of Comfort and Life,<br \/>\nyou sent your Holy Spirit<br \/>\nin wind and fire at Pentecost,<br \/>\nempowering the disciples<br \/>\nto proclaim with boldness<br \/>\nyour love in Christ,<br \/>\ngiving birth to your church.<\/p>\n<p>May the fire of the Spirit<br \/>\npurify our hearts and minds<br \/>\nto show forth the fruit of your Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>May the fire of the Spirit<br \/>\nignite our lives<br \/>\nwith zeal for your kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>May the fire of the Spirit<br \/>\nprovoke in us a passion<br \/>\nto pray and proclaim your love in Christ.<\/p>\n<p>May the fire of the Spirit<br \/>\nset our hearts on fire<br \/>\nwith love and adoration for you, our God. Amen.<\/p>\n<p>At Pentecost in Jerusalem the disciples were empowered and equipped by the Holy Spirit to go and tell the world about Jesus Christ to bring reconciliation, hope, forgiveness, purpose and pleasure to men and women, and girls and boys.<\/p>\n<p>The Holy Spirit\u00a0opened the &#8216;closed doors&#8217;, yes of the room they had shut themselves up in (John 20:19-26), but even more so, the Holy Spirit opened\u00a0the &#8216;closed doors&#8217; of the disciples fear and sent them courageously into the world which God works to win back through His disciples.<\/p>\n<p>What a privilege! What joy to be Christ&#8217;s Body, His hands and feet, His Church! May the fire of the Spirit send us out in prayerful and empowered mission.
