{"id":14963,"date":"2014-06-06T17:52:48","date_gmt":"2014-06-06T06:52:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?p=14963"},"modified":"2014-06-06T17:52:48","modified_gmt":"2014-06-06T06:52:48","slug":"eucumenical-reconciliation-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2014\/06\/06\/eucumenical-reconciliation-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Eucumenical Reconciliation Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_14976\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2014\/06\/2014-06-01-15.06.15.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14976\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14976\" alt=\"Reconciliation Service &amp; Symbols\" src=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2014\/06\/2014-06-01-15.06.15-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2014\/06\/2014-06-01-15.06.15-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/files\/2014\/06\/2014-06-01-15.06.15-483x645.jpg 483w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14976\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Reconciliation Service &amp; Symbols<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I had the privilege of taking part in a Eucumenical Reconciliation Service held at Hobart North Uniting Church on Sunday, organised by UAICC Tasmania (Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress).\u00a0 Reconciliation week commenced on the 27<sup>th<\/sup> May (which is the Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum that began counting the Aboriginal people in the Australian census and which authorised the Commonwealth Government to make laws about Aboriginal people) and concludes on the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> June (the anniversary of the High Court decision in the Mabo case in 1992). &#8220;Respect&#8221; was the key word that came to me.<\/p>\n<p>Also, I was struck by the significance of Fire to the Indigenous community, also awakened through John Glover&#8217;s captivating painting\u00a0of Mount Wellington and Hobart Town from Kangaroo Point which was shown above the Symbols of Land, Fire and Water, with the Cross and open Bible.
