Barrister and Human Rights Advocate, Jessie Taylor\u2019s gave an outstanding address at\u00a0the Opening of the Legal Year\u00a0 Service 2014<\/em><\/span> on 31 January at St David’s Cathedral, Hobart.<\/p>\n

Jessie asked how the scriptural command to “act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8) should be applied to our thinking around asylum seekers.<\/p>\n

Jessie also spoke at the Cathedral’s \u00a0Friday Forum<\/a> on the topic, ‘Not our problem?<\/em><\/span>‘ – How and why civil society offers REFUGE<\/strong> to those in need.<\/em><\/p>\n

Through developing a case study of people suffering persecution in their home country, Jessie engaged people in the decision making\u00a0forced by tragedy upon asylum seekers. I\u00a0found this to be both very informative and very distressing.<\/p>\n
