{"id":14174,"date":"2013-08-30T16:34:14","date_gmt":"2013-08-30T05:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?p=14174"},"modified":"2013-08-30T16:34:14","modified_gmt":"2013-08-30T05:34:14","slug":"prayers-for-the-federal-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2013\/08\/30\/prayers-for-the-federal-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Prayers for the Federal election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a prayer gathering for all Christians at St. David&#8217;s Cathedral, Hobart on\u00a0Monday 2 September, 12 noon &#8211; 2.00pm.\u00a0\u00a0It would be wonderful to see many gathered in prayer at this important time for our nation.<\/p>\n<p>You may also like to use the following litany in your prayers in the coming week.<\/p>\n<div style=\"line-height: 2.0em;font-style: italic;margin-left: 1.0em\">Lord of every time and place, God of integrity and truth,<br \/>\nwe pray for wisdom as we prepare to vote in the Federal election.<br \/>\nFor this land and the diversity of its peoples, we thank you, Lord.<br \/>\nFor all who work for peace and justice in this land, we thank you, Lord.<br \/>\nFor leaders who serve the common good, we thank you, Lord.<br \/>\nFor robust democracy and freedom to participate in public life,<br \/>\nwe thank you, Lord.<br \/>\nFor media scrutiny and open debate, we thank you, Lord.<br \/>\nLet us pray to the Lord, saying, \u2018Hear us, good Lord\u2019.<br \/>\nBless those who administer the electoral process,<br \/>\nthat they may uphold fairness, honesty and truth.<br \/>\nHear us, good Lord.<br \/>\nImpart your wisdom to all who propose policy,<br \/>\nthat their promises may serve those in greatest need.<br \/>\nHear us, good Lord.<br \/>\nGive integrity to party leaders, candidates and campaign workers,<br \/>\nand keep them from deceit and corruption.<br \/>\nHear us, good Lord.<br \/>\nProtect all engaged in public life, with their families, friends and colleagues,<br \/>\nthat nothing may demean or do them harm.<br \/>\nHear us, good Lord.<br \/>\nDirect those who influence opinion through the media,<br \/>\nthat we may listen, speak and vote with sound minds.<br \/>\nHear us, good Lord.Lord of every time and place, source of all authority,<br \/>\nwe pray for wisdom as we prepare to vote in the Federal election.<br \/>\nGive us a Parliament committed to the priorities of your kingdom,<br \/>\nso that peace, compassion, truth and justice may prevail among us,<br \/>\nand make us a blessing to all peoples, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.God, bless Australia, guard our people, guide our leaders and give us peace;<br \/>\nfor Jesus Christ\u2019s sake.
