This new Petition is required because of today’s tabled changes to the previously publicised Bill. So if you have signed the previous Petition, Late-term Abortion<\/a>,(which can still be signed up to 15 April) you still need to sign this one Abortion on Demand (Up to 9 Months)<\/a>\u00a0as well. Happy days!<\/p>\n

The Petition says:<\/p>\n

TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Assembly<\/p>\n

Tasmanian citizens draw to the attention of the House:
\nDespite media reports of Abortion law Backdown<\/a> the Petition rightly notes, that the Minister for Children has tabled a bill which would allow:
\n1. Abortion-on-demand of unborn babies up to the age of 16 weeks from conception; and
\n2. Abortion-on-demand of unborn babies up to 9 months with extensive scope for justification compared to current law.
\nYour petitioners are earnest and sincere in our belief that such changes are unacceptable and ignore the precious value of the lives of unborn babies.
\nYour petitioners request the House to:
\n\u2022 recognise the dignity and humanity of unborn babies;
\n\u2022 understand that the Bill effectively provides \u2018abortion on demand\u2019 at any stage of pregnancy, which is unacceptable to people who value the humanity and sanctity of the unborn boy or girl;
\n\u2022 recognise the lack of credibility in the drafting, where the stage of pregnancy requiring no justification, has been lowered without explanation;
\n\u2022 recognise that the late term provision which refers to \u201ccurrent and future physical, psychological, economic and circumstances\u201d is particularly offensive, reducing babies\u2019 lives to an arbitrary economic inconvenience causing the extreme outcome of abortion on demand at any stage of pregnancy;
\n\u2022 introduce local pregnancy support services which assist mothers from all social and economic circumstances, so that the lives of unborn girls and boys can be preserved from abortion\u2019s irreversible fatality; and
\n\u2022 reject the legislation tabled by the Minister for Children creating \u2018abortion on demand\u2019 provisions for all stages of pregnancy.<\/p>\n

Your petitioners implore you to act with wisdom and courage to protect all in our society.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
