{"id":12853,"date":"2013-01-19T14:01:10","date_gmt":"2013-01-19T03:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?p=12853"},"modified":"2013-08-21T18:12:15","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T07:12:15","slug":"16-days-with-jonah-day-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/2013\/01\/19\/16-days-with-jonah-day-10\/","title":{"rendered":"16 Days with Jonah: Day 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Jonah 3:3b-4<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><sup>3b <\/sup><\/em><em>Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took three days to go through it. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><sup>4<\/sup><\/em><em> Jonah began by going a day\u2019s journey into the city, proclaiming, \u201cForty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Philippians 2:5-11<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<table width=\"650\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"321\"><em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>In \u00a0 your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>Who, being in very nature God,<\/em><em><br \/>\ndid \u00a0 not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>rather, he made himself nothing<br \/>\nby \u00a0 taking the very nature of a servant,<br \/>\nbeing \u00a0 made in human likeness.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>And being found in appearance as a man,<br \/>\nhe \u00a0 humbled himself<br \/>\nby \u00a0 becoming obedient to death\u2014<br \/>\neven death on a cross!<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"329\"><em><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>Therefore God exalted him to the highest place<\/em><em><br \/>\nand \u00a0 gave him the name that is above every name,<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>that at the name of Jesus every knee \u00a0 should bow,<br \/>\nin \u00a0 heaven and on earth and under the earth,<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus \u00a0 Christ is Lord,<br \/>\nto \u00a0 the glory of God the Father.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Jonah finally does the mission God called him to do. God also calls us to deliver his message of reconciliation and peace by word and deed. We may not always see the effect of our message, but our responsibility is to faithfully proclaim God\u2019s message.<\/p>\n<p>Francis of Assisi said, <em>Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words. <\/em>It is said that his lifestyle and clothing spoke so clearly of Christ that words speaking of Christ were superfluous. Clearly, Francis of Assisi also spoke of Christ, but let us not avoid the challenge: Does my life and the life of my Christian community speak clearly of Christ?<\/p>\n<p>Jonah\u2019s recorded prophetic words are few, but his action in finally going to his enemy\u2019s capital city to proclaim God\u2019s judgment spoke volumes. He acted courageously. His words matched his boldness, giving credibility to his proclamation.<\/p>\n<p>The Apostle Paul reminds us that God in Christ took <em>the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness&#8230;he humbled himself and became obedient to death \u2013 even death on a cross.<\/em> (Philippians 2:5-8)<\/p>\n<p>In God\u2019s kingdom the messenger is also the message.<\/p>\n<p><em>God of the Servant King, by your Holy Spirit empower me to have the same attitude of humble obedience as Christ Jesus. May my life embody your message rejoicing that \u201cat the name of Jesus every knee should bow,\u00a0in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father\u201d.
