There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i><b>Romans 5:6-8<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>6\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.<\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>7\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die.<\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>8\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Jonah had found himself a good vantage point from which to observe God\u2019s punishment come upon the city of Nineveh. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Do you recall the parable of the prodigal sons and the joy of the compassionate father running through the village to welcome home the younger son who had disgraced his family and village? <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">The parable finishes with the unanswered question about the response of the elder son who had remained home. Would this son respond positively to the Father\u2019s plea to join in the celebration of the younger son\u2019s return?<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>My son, the father said, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.<\/i><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>32\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">(Luke 15:31,32)<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Do I rejoice when people turn to Christ or do I wish that they had \u2018got what they deserved\u2019? Do I love what God loves?<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Thomas Carlisle\u2019s poem <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>You Jonah<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> closes with these lines:<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>And Jonah stalked<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>to his shaded seat<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>and waited for God<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>to come around to his way of thinking.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>And God is still waiting for a host of Jonah\u2019s<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>in their comfortable houses<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>to come around to his way of loving.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">[Thomas Carlisle, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>You!
