{"id":14284,"date":"2013-09-27T14:35:59","date_gmt":"2013-09-27T03:35:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?page_id=14284"},"modified":"2013-09-27T14:35:59","modified_gmt":"2013-09-27T03:35:59","slug":"sixteen-days-with-jonah-day-12","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/studies\/jonah\/sixteen-days-with-jonah-day-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Sixteen Days with Jonah &#8211; Day 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i style=\"line-height: 1.4em;\"><b>Jonah 3:10<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>10<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i><b>Luke 23:39-43<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>39\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: \u201cAren\u2019t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>40\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>But the other criminal rebuked him. \u201cDon\u2019t you fear God,\u201d he said, \u201csince you are under the same sentence?<\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>41\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>42\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>Then he said, \u201cJesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.<\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>43\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>Jesus answered him, <\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>\u201cTruly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">God sees. God sees the genuineness of our attitudes and actions. In this passage, God saw the genuine change of mind of the people of Nineveh. Nineveh\u2019s repentance was acceptable to God. The expressions of repentance: fasting and wearing sackcloth were sincere demonstrations of their turning from evil. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Jonah\u2019s mission had been marvelously achieved. He proclaimed God\u2019s message and the people repented of their evil ways. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">The Prophet Joel speaks of the divine proposition which underlies prophetic ministry: <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Return to the Lord your God for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. (Joel 2:13)<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">When we repent, God relents from our due punishment. He is compassionate and full of mercy. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>God is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">(2 Peter 3:9b)<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">The Bible assures us of God\u2019s forgiveness in Jesus Christ: <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> (Acts 2:38) <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> (1 John 1:9)<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Merciful God, we thank you that, although seeing all things, you are yet patient, willing that all would come to repentance. Please be patient with Australia that we may yet turn to Jesus in repentance, and experience your mercy, in reconciliation with you and with one another.
