{"id":14265,"date":"2013-09-27T14:32:33","date_gmt":"2013-09-27T03:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?page_id=14265"},"modified":"2013-09-27T14:35:15","modified_gmt":"2013-09-27T03:35:15","slug":"sixteen-days-with-jonah-day-9","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/studies\/jonah\/sixteen-days-with-jonah-day-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Sixteen Days with Jonah &#8211; Day 9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i style=\"line-height: 1.4em;\"><b>Jonah 3:1-3a<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>1<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time: <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>2<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> \u201cGo to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.\u201d <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>3<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i><b>Mark 10:45<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">These verses are a great encouragement. Firstly, because we see God\u2019s loving persistence and, secondly, because we rejoice that God\u2019s servant, Jonah, obeys the voice of his Master. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">God has a heart for prophets who have lost their way, as well as for people who do not know his way. God has neither given up on his prophet, nor the people of Nineveh. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Jesus taught his disciples to pray, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Our Father&#8230;your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">. Thus we clearly pray for God\u2019s will to be done, while at the same time recognizing our role in the fulfilling of this prayer. God has privileged us as participants with him in the outworking of his will.<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">God persists with Jonah. Thus his word comes to Jonah <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>a second time<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">. In our own lives and ministry it is the fact of God\u2019s call that counts. The ministry and place of God\u2019s vocation for us is secondary to the fact that it is God\u2019s call on us. It is our responsibility to be sensitive to the signs of God\u2019s calling and to enter into it with dedication and joy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Persistent God, you call your servants a second, third and un-numbered times. Give me the will and wisdom to respond to you with thankfulness and joy. In the name of your Son who came not to be served, but to serve and who cried, \u201cnot my will but yours be done\u201d.
