{"id":14241,"date":"2013-09-27T14:20:05","date_gmt":"2013-09-27T03:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/?page_id=14241"},"modified":"2013-09-27T14:34:29","modified_gmt":"2013-09-27T03:34:29","slug":"sixteen-days-with-jonah-day-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/imaginarydiocese.org\/bishopjohn\/studies\/jonah\/sixteen-days-with-jonah-day-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Sixteen Days with Jonah &#8211; Day 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i><b>Jonah 1:1<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>1<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i><b>John 1:1-5, 10-18<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>1<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>2<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> He was with God in the beginning. <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>3<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>4<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>5<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>10<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>11<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>12<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God\u2014 <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>13<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband\u2019s will, but born of God. <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>14<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>15<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, \u201cThis is the one I spoke about when I said, \u2018He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.\u2019\u201d) <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>16<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>17<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. <\/i><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i>18<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span><i> No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">God continues to speak to us as He has throughout the ages. God spoke directly to people such as Deborah, Jeremiah, Hosea and Mary, the mother of Jesus. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">And in Jesus Christ, God has spoken to us in His beloved Son. The prologue to the Gospel according to John refers to Jesus as <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>the Word<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> and affirms that <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>the Word was God<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">. This name for Jesus Christ, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>the Word<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">, assures us of God\u2019s heart to communicate with us. God\u2019s desire extends to becoming a human being in order that we might understand more fully His heart for us. God speaks to His world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">God takes the initiative in our relationship. It is <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>the word of the LORD<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> that comes to Jonah. Similarly, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>the Word<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> comes to us, taking the initiative. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>(The Word) came to that which was his own <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>the Word became flesh and dwelt among us\u2026 (the Word) <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>came from the Father, full of grace and truth. <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">(John1:11,14)<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">These two great truths: God speaks to us and God takes the initiative in our relationship, give me great comfort. Why? Because when I let my love for God drift, I know that the Lover of the universe patiently, ceaselessly seeks me out to re-engage me in a living relationship of respect and dignity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Speaking God, I thank you for your great love. Speak to me today and may my life speak of you and your love.
